The Role

Sunrock's Legal team currently consists of 8 dedicated legal professionals across the Netherlands, Germany, and France, including two in-house lawyers in the Netherlands. Each legal team member specialises in different areas, and together, we are responsible for all legal matters across the countries where Sunrock operates. 

As a Legal Counsel within Commercial Client Solutions, you'll work from our headquarters in Amsterdam in a multidisciplinary client team of specialists, all working toward one goal: a CO2-neutral future. With every solar or battery project, we bring that goal closer. You’ll be advising on all relevant legal aspects right from the start of each project: lease agreements, operational leases, real property rights, financing, project structuring, and energy law. You’ll work closely with your colleagues from Project Development, Finance, and Project Management. Additionally, you will provide legal support to other departments involved in the operation, management, and maintenance of solar parks and battery projects. Given Sunrock's international presence and the diverse partners we work with, the primary language within the team is often English. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Support Legal Strategy Execution: Contribute to implementing the legal strategy in the Netherlands, in collaboration with the Senior Legal Counsel.

• Draft and Negotiate Operational Lease Agreements: Streamline complex lease negotiations with tenants and simplify legal drafting to improve consistency and speed.

• Enable Legal Input in Product Development: Advise on legal structuring and documentation for new offerings such as EMS, batteries, and off-grid technologies.

• Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with commercial client teams, project managers, developers, and ISM colleagues to embed legal input early in project development.

• Standardize Legal Documentation: Develop legal templates, standardized packages, and playbooks to reduce contract deviations and improve operational efficiency.

• Promote Legal Self-Service: Create ABC guidance tools and training programs to empower business teams to handle basic legal matters independently.

• Enhance Risk Management: Help foster a risk-aware culture by proactively addressing legal risks and building scalable legal processes.

• Contribute to Innovation and Market Expansion: Support the legal groundwork for new market offerings beyond traditional rooftop solar, aligning with innovation and growth objectives.

Who You Are

We're looking for a sharp legal mind with a commercial edge; someone who can simplify the complex, negotiate with confidence, and bring legal clarity to innovative energy solutions. If you're fluent in Dutch law, passionate about renewables, and ready to co-create the future of sustainable infrastructure, we want you at the table.
You bring:

• Master’s Degree in Law (WO-level): A completed Master’s in Law, preferably obtained in the Netherlands.

• 2–4 Years of Relevant Legal Experience: Experience as a lawyer or in-house counsel within a commercial environment, ideally with a focus on contract law, real estate development, and/or energy sector financing.

• Strong Legal Foundation: Proven expertise in (commercial) contract law; background in real estate law is a plus.

• Proactive and Pragmatic Mindset: Able to take initiative, work independently, and offer practical legal solutions.

• Firmness and Confidence in Negotiation: Comfortable managing lease and contract negotiations with clarity and conviction.

• Affinity with Renewable Energy (Preferred): Genuine interest in or experience with sustainable energy projects and innovation.

• Financial Acumen: Ability to understand financial implications in legal contexts and support commercial objectives.

• Bilingual: Fluent in Dutch and English: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both languages.

• Analytical and Solution-Oriented: Strong analytical skills with a focus on commercial relevance and practical outcomes.

• Collaborative Legal Team Player: Able to work cross-functionally and contribute positively to a growing legal team culture
