Project Developer – Solar & Smart Energy Solutions

As Project Developer, you are the commercial lead behind our solar and smart energy projects (e.g. BESS and charging solutions). Reporting to the Country Managing Director, you step in once client interest is secured and lead projects from proposal through to financial close, ensuring a smooth transition into construction and final commissioning. Your mission is to deliver competitive projects that meet client needs while achieving our business case targets. A key part of your role is managing client relationships, especially with portfolio clients, and turning these into strong, long-term partnerships.

To succeed, you exercise strong cross-functional leadership, working closely with Finance, Legal, Procurement, Project Management, Technical PM, and Asset Management to ensure every project is financially sound, contractually secure, technically feasible, commercially competitive, and built for long-term operational success.

Beyond individual projects, you help improve processes by standardizing workflows for greater efficiency and scalability. You also play a key role in identifying new business models, for example by integrating BESS, charging solutions, or other smart energy innovations into our offering.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead solar and smart energy projects from proposal to financial close, ensuring smooth transition into construction and commissioning.

• Act as primary contact for clients and manage relationships with key external stakeholders such as real estate developers and asset managers, building strong, long-term partnerships

• Develop project proposals that balance client needs with company targets.

• Work with clients to review partnerships and improve collaboration models.

• Align with internal teams, Finance, Legal, Procurement, Project Management, Technical PM, and Asset Management, to secure project success.

• Provide clear and accurate reporting on project status and pipeline to stakeholders.

• Support product team on defining and implementing new business models (e.g. BESS, charging, smart energy solutions).

• Standardize and optimize development processes for efficiency and scalability.

• Maintain commercial and financial control throughout the project lifecycle.

• Track market developments, identify opportunities, and share best practices.

Job requirements

What You Bring

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical or relevant field.

• 3–7 years of experience in project development, business development, or B2B account management.

• Strong commercial, negotiation, and financial skills, with a record in complex deals.

• Proven ability to build and maintain long-term client relationships.

• Knowledge of renewable energy markets; technical affinity with solar, BESS, or EV is a plus.

• Experience in process management and workflow optimization.

• Strong reporting and communication skills.

• Entrepreneurial mindset with resilience, creativity, and positive energy.

• A collaborative leader with strong cross-functional leadership skills, able to align diverse teams without direct line management.

• Fluency in German and English.

• Based in Düsseldorf or Hamburg, with willingness to travel regularly.

• Results-driven, with the ambition to make a lasting impact on the energy transition.
